If you owe more on your vehicle than it’s worth, you could end up owing the credit union the difference between the balance of your loan and the amount your insurance would pay if your vehicle is accidentally totaled or stolen. If you finance with the credit union, GAP protection will pay the difference up to $50,000 and will give you $1,000 toward a replacement vehicle.
